  Chapter Three

Rain stood up and walked over to the fireplace he started making a fire just for something to do with his hands while he thought over what Hawk said. Once Rain had the fire going he asked Hawk what he knew of this village and its people.

“Nothing really only that you, Rain started this pack a little over a year ago. That the pack grew quickly and you both are well respected.”

Rain glanced over at Phoenix and nodded. “What was that look?” asked Hawk.

There is a feeling in this room strong and thick. Hawk had felt it as soon as he drove into the village and the closer he got to the Alphas house the stronger the feeling became. Hawk was now almost overcome with it, the scents from both Rain and Phoenix, and the emotions he was feeling toward both and he was having problems breathing. This feeling of protectiveness toward them so soon and so fierce Hawk didn’t understand it, he only knew that he would protect them both with his life of this there was no confusion. Hawk had a feeling that both Rain and Phoenix knew something he didn’t.

Phoenix leaned forward and touch Hawk on the knee looking him in the eye.

“We believe you Hawk, being here the way you said. I am going to be honest with you and tell you everything. Rain and I were just speaking about this, this morning. I too have the gift of sight. For the last week I have been having a dream about a voice and a scent, the voice just says my mate I have found you then disappears. I haven’t had any feeling of trouble coming.”

Hawk asked, “Do you think I’m your mate? Is that even possible, you have a mate?”

Rain spoke up, “That’s the million dollar question. Because I will not share Alpha spot with another wolf.”

“Rain calm down please just wait. We don’t know if Hawk is here for us or if his mate is among our village.”

“Let’s examine things here Hawk do you feel anything being here with us? Does anything about being near us cause you any problems or feelings?”

Hawk wouldn’t meet Phoenix eyes, instead he looked at Rain. I have felt strange ever since I arrived here. Your scent, both of you, is causing me problems. I have a strong urge to protect you both, with my life if need be. I, I don’t ever want to be away from you either I don’t think I would survive if you sent me away.”

Silence settled over the room. Phoenix spoke up “Thank you Hawk for being so honest and open. I will try to be as honest.”

“When I opened the door to let you in your scent was familiar and I couldn’t understand why. I want to protect you also, I have a strong feeling for you. I feel comfortable in your presence and I don’t want you to leave ever. Rain is the most important person in my life. I can’t be without him, but now I don’t want to be without you either.”

  “Rain?”

Phoenix and Hawk looked to Rain for answers to the problem.

Sighing and staring off into the fire Rain contemplates what to say. Hawk has him mixed up what should he say. Not one to run from his responsibilities or hide from a problem or a truth he turns around.

“I feel something, I am not sure what it is. I don’t want you to leave and when you spoke of protecting us I realized that I also would always protect you. Saying that I have to say this again. I cannot and will not share the Alpha spot with another wolf. It would cause too many problems within the pack, it could divide them and that wouldn’t be good for anyone.”

Hawk smiled big and bright, “That is not a problem.” Phoenix and Rain looked at Hawk in confusion.

Next there was a shimmer and a shift of air and where the man Hawk sat, was instead a beautiful red-tailed hawk of the bird variety. This Hawk was at least 21” long and weighted a good 43 ounces. Long tail feathers reddish in color, his top feathers where a light brown with a white breast and throat. His eyes were a wonderful ebony in color. A were-hawk who would have thought that. Hawk shifted back to himself laughing.

“I thought my name would have given you a clue. Among my people we change our name after our first shift to reflect our were-animal. I could never be an alpha wolf, because I’m not one problem solved. That one anyway.”

Rain looked from Hawk to Phoenix, Phoenix looked from Rain to Hawk and Hawk looked from Rain to Phoenix all laughing and smiling.

“Hawk, said Rain, “How would you like to be our mate?”

Phoenix held her breathe waiting and nodding as Hawk looked at them then he smiled again “yes,” he said.

Alright then welcome to the family. We will have a huge party letting the whole village know. We should invite Mary too and thank her for sending you to us.
